BROTHERLY ENCOURAGEMENTS

Have you visited the virtual prayer wall? Leave a prayer, light a candle, what a cool way to show solidarity with other believers. This newest Christian community is growing by leaps and bounds and adding new services to it's marketing mix.

GodTube.com has added social networking to the list of services that already include user-generated and live webcasting. While there already exists other Christian websites with similar offerings (dittytalk.com, videopile.com, mychurch.org, xianz.com), GodTube.com is the first to offer all three services.

And the triple-combination formula has been working.

The family-friendly website increased its traffic by 973 percent in past months and is streaming more than 1.5 million hours of videos.

Bethlehem had a Christian majority which made up 62 percent of its population. But now, the population of believers has fallen to a historic low of about 15 percent due to the continuous exodus of Christians escaping persecution by radical Muslims, according to the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews.
This report leaves the reader wondering about other changes that might happen in this area. Will these new faces change more than just the religious make up of the community? What about future celebrations in this historic place for Christians?

BROTHERS SHARING IDEAS

If you want to survive, and thrive, this--or any--holiday season, remember that charity starts with an individual giving to another individual. Always has, and always will. Payroll deductions alone do NOT prove ONE'S liberality!
It only takes a small effort for each one to reach one. Make a personal decision to touch someone's life and not just settle into to comfort zone of "I gave at the office" or leaving it up to others.

BROTHERS ON

The holiday season is upon us and many of us will have fond memories of the visits with family and friends, but for some this may be a traumatic, troubling, tough experience brought on by the anxiety of dealing with our family members.

For those you have been waiting with baited breath for this updated post to Midtown Live. You probably already know why I've been unable stay posted as usual, but now that I've gotten caught-up with my classes at HCC-Central, I'll soon be back to my weekly mix of observational wit and commentary.

BROTHERS SHARING IDEAS

Are you preparing your shopping list for Christmas? Would a laptop make a good stocking stuffer? One laptop Per Child(OLPC), the initiative to provide lap tops to the nearly two billion children of the developing world, with little or no access to education, has announced a two week long program, Give one Get one, that might interest you.

You have until November 26 (should you be a resident of the U.S. or Canada) to plunk down $399 to purchase a laptop for yourself while donating another to a child in a developing nation. You can write off $200 of the order, and T-Mobile will throw in a year of free HotSpot access for U.S. participants.

BROTHERS ON

This week November 12-18 is World Kindness Week. Christians practice spreading kindness, love and happiness daily but this week we should inspire and incite the others to spread kindness in our community and how about the workplace too.
Is' a great time to spread the awareness that we are all sisters and brothers in Christ.

BROTHERS SHARING IDEAS

I plan to give you more information about streaming sites as I get a chance to review them. I've completed checking out the STREAMING LIGHT from New Light Christian Church Houston's Senior Pastor I.V. Hillard.
Navigating the site was a breeze and one click takes you straight to what you are looking for without having to go site-seeing past a bunch of other content.
Some sites I've visited didn't have any audio or video available yet, so hurry up Webmasters put up some sermons and songs so I can tell WWW. about your success.

BROTHERS ON

Gospel music my not be the flavor of the month on most blogs but I maintain a strict diet of Gospel songs and scriptures to keep me focused, on faith ,as I go through the daily grind of life.
I found a Yahoo Launchcast radio channel that plays my favorite songs from the Soulstirers of the 50's to the latest from the The Williams Brothers. Downloads of most albums and individual songs are available for you but the play list can be shaped and molded to play your favorite songs too. By rating music and artist you build a play list and if it is something that you don't like there is a button for that too!

I BROTHERLY ENCOURAGEMENTS

God’s Greatness can triumph over any situation from those small problems that confront us each day to our over all well being. He wants us to draw upon his limitless strength through faith in his Word.

That’s why Paul told us to put on the Amour of God
Jesus said in Mark 11:23 “whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.”

What is it that you have faith enough to believe for a bicycle...a house...a car!

II BROTHERS REACHING UP

Encourage yourself and others each and every day as you let your light shine before men that they may see God working in your life. It will give them an assurance that they too can hope…have faith…be encouraged in the Lord.

III BROTHERS REACHING OUT

The gold diggers or 49’ers speaking about the California hills told everyone that would listen “there’s gold in them ther’ hills” and I’m here to testify that there is power in God’s Words and every word that you and I speak should be Words of Faith...Hope...Rigtheousness.
So many people use their own words to defeat themselves instead of speaking to encourage…empower…enable themselves.
Once they say I can’t or I won’t (they can't or won't) they create a attitude of defeat that limits what they can accomplish.
Brothers the Word is might and powerful like a two edged sword able to cut between bone and marrow able to discern the intent of your heart.

IV BROTHERS SHARING IDEAS

Let me share this food for thought with you....

Joshua 5:13-6:27 gives us an account of the children of Israel who were walking around the same walls (dealing with the same problem) they even blew their horns and nothing happened.

It wasn’t until they all (spoke the word) shouted with a loud voice, that their problem…their situation…their answer came tumbling down.

V BROTHERS ON 9-26

Encourage yourself by Donald Lawrence has become this year’s Gospel mantra. The powerful emotions that are expressed in the song declare:
Sometimes you have to encourage yourself.
Sometimes you have to speak a word over yourself
As I minister to you I minister to my self

Everyone who has been through trying times can identify …testify…witness the validity of those words.
David encouraged himself using God’s words in Psalms 27.
No matter how you feel you have to raise your thoughts to a spiritual level where whatever you are going through will not seem as significant…lose its power over you…disappear... as you regain a peace of mind.

BROTHERS REACHING UP

Where is Your Faith

  • Faith in man, (leaders have faults)

  • Friends (will betray us)

  • Idols/False Gods (money, satus, science)

Misplaced Faith

Having Faith only in ourselves is how man attempts to circumvent God. He expect us to demonstrate that our faith is in the creator and not in anything that he or our minds have created.

Advice for Daily Living

Faith is how we activate the blessings that God has so graciously bestowed upon us. Without faith it is impossible to please God. We can’t live victoriously based only on our own ability, the Bible tells us that once we accept Christ into our heart it is then that we become more than conquerors.

BROTHERS ON FAITH

There is a group of Christians that need your prayers. If you would like to stand in faith with them here are some of the details that you should know about them.

“We know God works through human beings. We know God sent you here. The condition of our women is so difficult. My brother was killed; I will never return to Ethiopia again. Here we are drinking dirty water. Those who die will die. On a typical day we get up early to pray. Then the women go to fetch leaves. Some of the men look for firewood, or fetch water to help their wives.”

These are the words from a Sudanese Christian who was only identified as Male#8. Can you imagine living in a refugee camp depending upon dirty water and very little if any food. Only through faith in God is he strengthened, knowing that his prayers may be the only thing that can keep him alive.
Here are more firsthand accounts of these Christians desperate fight for existence.

USING YOUR FAITH FOR DAILY INSPIRATIONS, HEALTH AND PERSONAL GOALS

When there is plenty of food and money to pay the bills we can all believe for a new car or a bigger house, but what about when you've been believing for months and that job...that bill seems larger than life. This week we'll take a look at using our Faith in every area of our life from obtaining a healing to that career that we want.

BROTHERS REACHING OUT

Family Life Today has designated August as the month to turn your TV off. Brother to Brother would like to support these efforts by reminding everyone that it would be a great opportunity to catch up on the blogs post you have missed or a chance to study the BIBLE to show thyself approved, a workman rightly dividing the WORD that need not be ashamed.

Watch this blog for new changes

Brothers holding hands

He that saith he is the light and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now.
He that loveth his brother abideth in the light and there is none occasion of stumbling in him.
But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whether he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded eyes.
I John 2:10

I Brotherly encouragement

As the keepers of this magnificent planet, it is time for all of us to perfect the art of human relationships. Our survival depends on the ability of man to work together to overcome the many obstacles that we are faced with to maintain this for future generations

WINDING DOWN THE SUMMER

As the summer winds down there seems to be no end to all of the rain in the past few weeks.

Anyone that saw the recent news report about the accident on I-10 at Federal Rd has to see that life is not only precious but realize that like the old song says one day you're here the next day you're gone.

My heart goes out to the mother and child that were killed in this accident and my prayer is that the family is able to stay strong.

This weekend was full of excitement in H-Town......

This weekend was full of excitement in H-Town... If you weren't lucky enough to catch Dialogue with Ada Edwards on Praise 92.1FM Saturday morning then let me give you taste of what you missed out on.

Keith Summerfield (St. Johns UMC) shared about his experiences as a young African American man who doesn't feel the need dress to impress, but that it's what's on the inside of a mans' heart that makes the real difference....after all it's not the clothes that make the man, but the man that makes the clothing look good or bad.

Dr. Annette M. Howard...told how stress can become difficult to manage without proper care for your physical well being....high blood pressure diabetes are just a few of the ailments that stress can trigger....cost of treating these maladies are climbing to over $300 billion annually.

IN THE WARD........

Everyone needs to be familiar with the HAPS (Home buyers Assistance Program).... They provide $ 19,500 to $34,000 down payment assistance for low to moderate income Houstonians. If you reside or plan to reside in several targeted neighborhoods, you may even be able to buy a new home through this program....just about all of the Wards .... Trinity Gardens and Houston Gardens are places on the list in Northeast Houston... Sunnyside...SouthUnion...or South side communities that are part of this target market.
This is all a part of the Homecoming Initiatives, from the Mayor's office , that is trying to improve the city's blighted areas...helping to keep the history of the communities intact while encouraging new growth.

SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING.......

Real Life 8am to noon (except 7/30 - ALL DAY) (Community) Ongoing Event, Ends 7/31/2007Location: Tes Prep SE Campus
This program is geared to help the students realize that the decisions that they are making now going into high school are very important to their future. Program includes financial, career and college planning for 70+ low-income high school students

DON'T FORGET.....The Men's Conference this week at New Light ...Pastor Val Adams has an event this week I was in such a hurry that I didn't get to write all of the information down but the next time you pass by Canaan Baptist Church on Lockwood @ 610 you can see it for yourself.

Expect to see some new changes and format for this blog in the near future .....until then

Pray for me and I'll pray for you !

Well hope that all is well with you in Space City, TX. Here what happening that everyone should check out this week.

IN THE NICKEL...... stop by the Fifth Ward Redevelopment office and sign up for the classes on using computers and learning how to navigate on the Internet and don't forget to ask about the seminars that are coming up on home buying and business accounting two skills that no brother should be without.

WHILE YOU'RE OUT AND ABOUT........

How long has it been since you attended school...well partner that's too long! I've recently completed enrolling in a couple of classes for the upcoming fall semester (07-08) at HCC. Now is the time to get yourself into gear if you want to enroll in classes of any kind, at any of the local colleges or universities.
Enrollment dates are getting close and in some cases you may have to do some testing before you can start classes. If you start this month you'll be sure to get a seat in the class that you want instead of having to wait for second start. Believe me, if you're not working and just hanging out, there is no better way to update your skill set or add a new one than attending school.

I hope that everyone listens each week to 92.1 on Saturday mornings for the CATFISH, GRITS AND POLITICS SHOW...featuring Councilwoman Ada Edwards and BREAKFAST KLUB'S Marcus Davis from 7 to 10 am. They always have very informative guest and focus on topics that are very relevant in the community. One of the ongoing topics is the cruising that takes place on MLK on Sunday afternoons and why the residents are getting upset.
If that's one of your favorite places on Sunday you may want to check out the show and stay abreast of whats about to happen...because something is about to happen!

SPIRITUALLY SPEAKING

I hope to make it to the Men's' conference that is taking place July15th-19th at New Light. The pastor Bishop I.V.Hilliard is holding a conference like no other conference this city has seen in a longtime. Next year I'll try to make it to the Men's conference at St. Luke's Baptist Church, on West Orem.

well tell next week Peace...........
Looking for places to hang-out, things to do, talk to one of the brothers at your Church. You do attend Church, regularly? Ask them when does the City-wide Brotherhood meet or about volunteer opportunities at the church.
If they are reluctant at first try and try again. Some of the other things that you can focus your time doing is visiting NA and AA meetings , doesn't matter if you have done drugs or drank liquor , whether you realize it or not we all have some kind of addiction. These meetings can provide an outlet for you to unload some of the baggage that most Brothers carry around from year to year, before it gets too heavy and you end up pushing it around in a shopping cart.
The Men's Center and Alive and Kicking are two that I recommend. They are easy to find and both easily accessible by metro. The best part is that they are just as effective as most counseling session with a physcologist but better because they are free sessions.
